Five in a Row

Its five in a row as Chennai super kings surpassed their previous success ratio in a row of 4 victories in the IPL season 1. With a dashing win against the Kings XI, chennai seen to that they made sure they extend their winning streak by beating the defending champions, the Rajasthan Royals once again in this season in an Low Scoring game.

Winning the toss, Shane Warne decided to bat first , pointing out that chennai were not good chasers. On the other hand MSD, returned Warne's compliments saying that they are in pressure to post a huge total considering the fact that his team were a strong batting unit from the rest of the teams, with an form Hayden, Raina and himself in the cards. From there starts the mind games of the 2 captains.

Its not just bout the cricketing strength , but the score settlement that chennai were longing for since the last season especially after losing all 3 matches to the royals, particularly in the finals were the royals sneaked past the totals in the final over of the game.

And so the game started with Morkel giving the early break through the team needed for this whole season. Now given that their opening combo was out smarted royals were sent into a defensive mode and scored really at a low rate at the first 6 overs. However the point to notice here is that the royals preserved wickets in order to give Yusaf the chance to sink the opposition at the final 4 overs or so.

Though the plan worked well for some time, the score board didnt tick much and the pressure got the better of the batsmen owing to which they lost regular wickets. Also people that its only because that MSD used 7 bowlers in first 10 overs that the batsmen couldn't possibly settle themselves down for a decent scoring on the board.

After the strategy break the royals lost Smith, following which Jadeja and Pathan took the responsibility to score something reasonable a total to defend for their bowlers. And while accelerating the run rate, they lost their wickets by the brilliance in catching, courtesy Raina and Oram, despite the team's frequent misjudgement in catches. After that there wasn't much of a show other than Warne himself to post a total of 140 runs on the board.

Now the chennai's turn to bat. Expectations high. And the drama was on when the team with the most formidable batting line up was thought of finishing the match within 15 overs or so struggled to score runs. With the pitch turning more slower as time passed by, made it difficult for the batsman to play strokes. While veteran batsman Hayden played his way through to pick the odd boundaries and singles , the other side he lost 2 partners within 6 overs. Well not the ideal start the super kings would have thought of having, that is until the partnership of Badrinath and Hayden clicked and was locked in to drag the game without losing wickets and at the same time keeping up to the scores so it doesnt move out of the hand reach.

Warne started his overs, trying to demoralize the team's pride with his leg spin making it harder for the batsman to play. Well the trick worked well with badrinath but hayden was no push over, so he started doing what he knows best.Demolish the bowling attack to send them in defensive modes. He scored more than 10 runs in the over of Warne's,including a trade mark, walk down strike.

And that over of warne's set the pace up for super kings and raced to the to run rate in Harwood's 2nd over where he was outplayed by badrinath's smart play and sensible strokes. From there the equation was run a ball. Warne brought himself to claim the wicket of Hayden, but then, he and badri seen to that they stood and done the damage. Chennai team finished the game with almost 2 overs pending, and Badrinath was adjudged the Man of the Match.
